KURUKSHETRA: In a significant ruling, the additional district and sessions judge (Fast Track Special Court for Rape and POCSO Act Cases) in Kurukshetra has convicted and sentenced Aman, a resident of Thanesar, to a total of 14 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) along with a fine of Rs 1.85 lakh for abducting and raping a minor girl. The verdict was delivered based on witness testimonies and evidence presented during the trial. According to details provided by the District Attorney, the case originated from a complaint filed on August 29, 2022, at the District Women Police Station by a woman from Pipli. The complainant stated that her minor daughter, a school student, had been persistently followed by a boy. On August 28, 2022, the accused lured the girl away under false pretences and forcibly raped her. Upon returning home, the girl disclosed the incident to her mother, prompting the complaint.

The police registered the case under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The investigation was conducted by sub-inspector Taro Devi, who arrested the accused and remanded him to judicial custody as per court orders. A chargesheet was subsequently filed in the court.
Following regular hearings in the Fast Track Special Court, the judge pronounced Aman guilty on January 19, 2026. The detailed sentencing includes 5 years RI under 363 (kidnapping) IPC with fine of Rs 10,000; in default of payment, an additional 1 month of imprisonment. Under IPC Section 366 (kidnapping or abducting to compel marriage): 7 years of RI and a fine of Rs 20,000; in default, an additional 1 month of imprisonment. Under IPC Section 506 (criminal intimidation): 1 year of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5,000; in default, an additional 15 days of imprisonment. Under POCSO Act Section 4 (penetrative sexual assault on a child): 14 years of RI and a fine of Rs 1,00,000; in default, an additional 6 months of imprisonment. Under POCSO Act Section 12 (sexual harassment of a child): 3 years of RI and a fine of Rs 50,000; in default, an additional 1 month of imprisonment.The court emphasised the gravity of the offenses against the minor, ensuring the sentences reflect the evidence and legal provisions. The total fine amounts to Rs 1.85 lakh, with provisions for additional imprisonment if unpaid.
